Principal Investigator

Stephanie's interests are in ensuring the fair distribution of resources and energy transitions. She is an Associate Professor in Climate-Compatible Growth at the Energy and Power Group, where she focuses on integrating community viewpoints into energy planning and decision-making.

Rene Bañares-Alcántara 

Co-Investigator

Rene works on the production, distribution, and use of green ammonia (and more recently green hydrogen). He is a Reader in the Department of Engineering Science and the head of the Oxford Green Ammonia Technology group (OXGATE)

Gemma provides project and operational management support ensuring the smooth and efficient running of SHIELD.

Alycia Leonard

Senior Research Associate

Alycia works on spatial techno-economic modelling of hydrogen and ammonia production for the SHIELD project. Her research more broadly focuses on sustainable and inclusive energy systems which account for both large-scale economic opportunities and local community needs.

Carlo Palazzi

Research Associate

Carlo is developing models to evaluate the role of green ammonia alongside other hydrogen derivatives in decarbonizing energy systems accounting for long-term storage and uncertainty. He is a DPhil student in Engineering Science, working across OPSIS and OXGATE.

Miguel Sanchez-Lopez

Postdoctoral Researcher

Miguel works on techno-economic modeling for multi-energy systems based on electricity, hydrogen, and ammonia. His research focuses on decentralized decision-making in power systems and its impact on the notions of energy fairness.

Samiyha Naqvi

Software Engineer

Samiyha works on the maintenance and development of the spatial techno-economic model of hydrogen and ammonia production. She is on hand to address issues and bugs raised by users, as well as continually increasing the usability of the model.

Investigator

Florian works on quantifying the investment and financing risks of hydrogen projects in Ukraine. He is a Professor at the Technical University of Munich and Head of the Public Policy for the Green Transition group.

Leander Müller

Research Associate

Leander works on the assessment of financing green hydrogen projects in Ukraine. He is a PhD Student supervised by Florian Egli at the PPGT Chair at the Technical University of Munich. His research focuses on public policy and energy modelling for industrial decarbonization.

Nathalie Luck

Postdoctoral Researcher

Nathalie works on the assessment of financing green hydrogen projects in Ukraine. Her research interests more broadly include the role of social equity in green transition processes in emerging and developing countries, climate change mitigation and the green transition in the agricultural sector.

Adam is studying quantitative models for the value of Ukraine in the mid- and long-term. He is a Professor of Energy Systems in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College.

Lukas Schirren

Research Associate

Lukas works with Professor Adam Hawkes, focusing on the quantitative assessment of energy systems and the economic applications of green hydrogen. His research interests span system modelling, operations research, spatial analysis, especially targeting energy topics such as industrial decarbonisation.

Yaroslav Melekh

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Yaroslav works on financing costs and investment risk perception in renewables and green hydrogen, and the development of energy sector scenarios. His research interests include the economics of energy innovation, climate finance in developing countries, and decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors.

The Kyiv School of Economics collaborates with the other institutions on various topics, contributing its expertise on the Ukrainian landscape.
