I am undertaking an EPSRC-funded PhD developing techniques for IGBT active gate drives. This research investigates the potential for digital methods to provide a tailored IGBT gate current to minimize switching losses and electromagnetic interference.
I graduated with an MEng in Integrated Engineering from Cardiff University in 2016. This degree provided a mixture of mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge, and, through my third-year research on battery monitoring for off-grid solar installations in developing countries, I began to explore in more depth the fields of electrical storage and photovoltaic generation.
I took a special interest in the electrification of a rural health post in Zambia, a project supported by Cardiff University School of Engineering. Through this partnership I had the opportunity to travel twice to the site in 2014, the first time to meet the resident community there and estimate the electrical load, and the second time with a team to implement a photovoltaic and battery storage system that had been designed by Cardiff students and staff.
