NEW! Launch Event 2013

PEGGIE is the Energy and Power Group's eco-vehicle that participated in 2012 and will participate in May 2013 in the Shell Eco-Marathon in Rotterdam. The primary motivation for participating is to increase our efficiency performance in comparison to last year's competition. Since 2006 a number of fourth year undergraduate projects of the Energy and Power Group have focused on developing PEGGIE's powertrain. Today, the Team is mostly conformed by graduate students from the EPG and other science groups of the University.

Our vision for the 2013 Eco-marathon is to submit an updated, battery electric version of the 2012 entry. PEGGIE will provide the physical support to allow us to implement our powertrain – motors, electronics, photovoltaics and batteries – expertise. Moreover, a race-ready PEGGIE will be the foundation upon which we build both skills and experience in the wider aspects of eco-racing. Ultimately, the lessons learned from the experience of actual competition has enhanced the design of new vehicles for future competitions. We expect that participation in the 2013 Eco-Marathon will spark interest across the spectrum of University of Oxford students. Participation by students with various technical and non-technical skills will ensure the necessary expertise is present for any successful Eco-Marathon now and into the future. In summary, PEGGIE will allow the members of EPG to implement the experience gleaned from our research activities. We hope that greater student interest, inspired by our participation in the 2013 Eco-Marathon, will lead to innovative and creative entries in future competitions.
